Who we are
The Vandegrift Viper Tennis Team has 75 athletes on the roster, the most EVER for the school! These kids love tennis and have found a home at Vandegrift High School in the Tennis Program there. Led by Head Coach Garrett Pekar and Assistant Coach Danielle Barcenas, these kids work hard! They have a fall season full of team matches and tournaments, culminating in end of season Districts and Area Tournament play in October each year for Varsity. This year we took 2nd in Districts behind the eventual State Championship winners, Westwood High School. Varsity ended as Regional Quarterfinalists after a super close, super exciting match where the kids showed amazing grit against Reagan High School. The spring season is just around the corner and just as busy with more individual tournaments for all of the athletes. Varsity typically has players make it deep into the State Tournament in April and May to end the year.
The Booster Club helps raise money for Coach and the athletes to cover expenses that LISD and registration fees don’t cover. This year, we want to raise money to help with costs for away tournaments to Kemah and a new UTR Tournament in Dallas in March 2026 for Varsity girls and boys. Also, the Coach REALLY needs a new Shed for his equipment. A long-term goal is to raise enough money to put in stairs between the two sets of courts for easier access between the upper and lower levels. The Booster fundraising also helps cover a team bonding season kickoff breakfast in August, the Homecoming Parade festivities, Senior Night fun, and the year-end Banquet. We are currently finalizing signage for the courts highlighting past team and individual achievements and Vipers at the next level who went on to play college tennis! We are so proud of them all!
Thank you for supporting the kids and the team, it means so much!
